Mersin is a thoroughly modern city on the eastern Mediterranean of 1.5 million, built only 50 years
ago to be an Anatolian port and trade city. It remains so, and is an important trading gateway
connecting Turkey to much of the Middle East. There are several good hotels of all levels in Mersin,
and an interesting mix of cultures. Still, the city is primarily an interesting stopping point for the traveller
or businessman rather than a destination in itself.
